96th Infantry, State Color. The 96th was composed mostly of men from Schuylkill County, and a few from Luzerne and Berks counties. Organized in late September 1861, the regiment received its state color on November 6. The flag was retired on February 22, 1864 when it was sent to Pottsville. It is unclear whether or not the flag was ever returned to the regiment. In late 1864, those who did not re-enlist were sent home for muster out, and the veterans who remained were consolidated into the 95th PA, which mustered out on July 24, 1865.

National Color Presented to 25th Infantry and used by the 96th PA. The 96th was composed mostly of men from Schuylkill County, and a few from Luzerne and Berks counties. Organized in late September 1861, the regiment received the national color on behalf of Pottsville resident Joseph W. Cake on May 25, 1861. It was carried by the regiment at least through September 1862. In late 1864, those who did not re-enlist were sent home for muster out, and the veterans who remained were consolidated into the 95th PA, which mustered out on July 24, 1865.

96th Infantry, 1863 Presented Regimental Color. The 96th was composed mostly of men from Schuylkill County, and a few from Luzerne and Berks counties. Organized in late September 1861, the regiment received a regimental color on June 11, 1863 on behalf of a group of Pottsville ladies. There is no surviving evidence to suggest the flag was carried in any 1864 battles. In late 1864, those who did not re-enlist were sent home for muster out, and the veterans who remained were consolidated into the 95th PA, which mustered out on July 24, 1865.
