8th Cavalry (89th Regiment), First State Standard. Recruited in Philadelphia, Chester, and Lycoming counties during the summer and fall of 1861, the 8th Cavalry organized in September and was presented their first state standard in December of that year. The flag was retired sometime during the 1864 Virginia Campaign (Spring and Summer) when a replacement was received. After April 1865 the survivors were consolidated with the 16th PA Cavalry which was mustered out of service on August 11, 1865.
