79th Infantry

79th Infantry, First State Color. The 79th regiment was recruited under the authority of Col. Henry A. Hambright. With the exception of Company D from Washington County, the 79th is from Lancaster County, and was organized in September-October 1861. They received their first state color on October 17, 1861. In March 1864 most of the men re-enlisted and the flag was left in Harrisburg during a one-month furlough. The 79th was mustered out of service on July 12, 1865.

79th Infantry, Second State Color. The 79th regiment was recruited under the authority of Col. Henry A. Hambright. With the exception of Company D from Washington County, the 79th is from from Lancaster County, and was organized in September-October 1861. They received their second state color in May 1865 after the first one was left in Harrisburg March-April 1864 when most of the men re-enlisted. The 79th was mustered out of service on July 12, 1865.
