52nd Infantry, First State Color. The 52nd regiment was organized in October 1861, and was composed of men from Luzerne, Wyoming, Clinton, Union, Snyder, Bradford, Columbia, and Schuylkill counties. The first state color was presented to the regiment by Governor Curin on November 5, 1861. The color-sergeant was Henry A. Mott. At the end of 1863, many of the original members of the 52nd re-enlisted, and Hiram A. Fuller was appointed color-sergeant until April 1, 1865. Major John A. Hennessy raised the regiment's flag over Fort Sumter, the first Union flag in the fort since April 1861. The flag was raised over Fort Ripley, Castle Pinckney, and then over Charleston, SC. The flag was retired shortly after the Federal occupation of Charleston. The 52nd was mustered out of service on July 12, 1865.

The regiment received their second state color sometime after April 26, 1865. The 52nd was mustered out of service on July 12, 1865.
