187th Infantry, State Color. This regiment was recruited from soldiers who re-enlisted from a battalion raised for six-month service during the Gettysburg campaign and was organized during the spring of 1864. The regiment was mustered out of service on August 3, 1865. It is unknown when the regiment received the state color; it was sent to the State Agency in late September 1864. In December, Sergeant John S. Ware was appointed color-bearer.
