16th Cavalry, (161st Regiment), State Standard. Composed of men from more than seventeen counties across the state, the 16th cavalry was organized in November 1862 under Colonel John Irvin Gregg. Although the state standard was completed in January 1863, it was not received by the regiment until December 14th. The 16th cavalry was mustered out of service on August 7, 1865.
