15th Cavalry, (160th Regiment), State Standard. Colonel William J. Palmer began recruiting troopers for this regiment in August 1862. The regiment was nicknamed the "Anderson Cavalry" due to Palmer's prior duty of guarding Brigadier-General Robert Anderson, hero of Ft. Sumter. Due to Palmer's absence, the proper regimental organization was never fully implemented and several hundred soldiers refused to enter active duty and were arrested.
